What is a Rat?
Rats are members of the rodent family. While there are many different
species of rats, most people are only familiar with two - Rattus rattus,
also known as black rat or ship rat, and Rattus norvegicus, also known
as the Norway rat. Pet rats, or fancy rats if you prefer, are descended
from the Norway rat.
